Bike Tours in the East of the Algarve

  • Cycle for a week or more through the Algarve - a landscape of rich variety awaits you. You will discover traditional towns and villages, countless historical treasures and cultural gems. The routes are predominantly flat to hilly, some steep climbs and descents, mostly on good natural tracks or paved side roads.

Detailed holiday and bike tour description

Day 1

Arrival on the airport and you take a taxi to your hotel (approx. 25€). In the evening LisaBikes will greet you at the hotel, the bicycles will be handed over and adjusted, afterwards we make a trip orientation.

Tour 1black - 41 km

On side streets the bike tour leads through fruit plantations, passes the village of Moncarapacho, you are headed to Fuseta where you reach the sea. From Fuseta the tour goes on a very good bike path along the lagoon of Ria Formosa natural reserve, passing under the railway, you ride through small hamlets to the national road which you take a short drive up to Olhão . Immediately at the entrance of the town is " Quinta de Marim ", then the tour leads to the harbor in Olhão, the largest fishing port in the Algarve. After the town you ride along the railway line and the lagoons, where you cross the national road in front of Faro and drive back to your hotel.

Tour 2green - 42 km

The tour leads first in an easterly direction on side roads through small villages with white and brightly painted houses . The route is slightly hilly and on the hills you can enjoy beautiful views in the inland and the sea. You drive through a typical landscape of the Barrocal, with many fruit and vegetable plantations, figs-, carob -, almond and olive trees. It is a quiet area with little traffic, mostly farmer’s vehicles to cultivate their fields. In the small villages, there is a variety of "Pastelarias", cafés for a rest and a "Bica" (Espresso). Through Foupana and Moncarapacho the route goes back to the hotel.

Tour 3red - 38 km

On this day you will visit the capital of the Algarve, Faro . Initially, the tour takes you over a rural area and just before Faro you reach a beautiful bike track which leads you to the old town of Faro. Then it's on secondary roads to the EURO football stadium in the Algarve the " Parque das Cidades ".
From the football stadium, the tour leads to Estoi where at the western entrance you can see the ruins of the Roman villa complex, " Ruinas de Milreu ". Right in the village is the Palácio de Estoi, which as 5-Star Hotel, Pousada de Estoi, was rebuilt and a visit worth. A round tour of the Palácio and the adjoining park is very impressive. From the romantic village square with the impressive church "Igreja de São Martinho" it goes about 10km back to your hotel.

Tour 4violet - 43 km

The todays tour starts with a short climb to a ridge. Subsequently, a short descent leads to a climb to São Brás. The city is located at the beginning of the hilly " Serra ". It offers beautiful views over the Barrocal and the coast. At the southern end of the village you will ride on parts of an old Roman road, named as " Calçadinha Romana ". After São Bras you ride few kilometres straight on and afterwards starts a descent to Bengado and further on to Sta.Catarina. Along the route you can always see cork oaks and many carob and olive trees. In Sta.Catarina there is one of the most important olive oil production. Next, the tour takes you over a flat stretch of about 7km to Moncarapacho and from there it goes back to your hotel.

Tour 5blue - 40 km

You set off the ride on secondary roads through the agriculture area of Barrocal to the football stadium, where you can enjoy many fruit and vegetable plantations, figs-, carob -, almond- and olive trees. Further on it goes up to the pretty village of Sta. Bárbara de Nexe. The small village is located in a garden landscape. From Sta. Bárbara the tour leads uphill to Bordeira and, subsequently, on a steep descent to Corotelo where you cross the main street and the ride continues on side roads in direction to São Brás. Through small hamlets, lush vegetation and rustic properties, the tour leads you through Estoi back to your hotel.

Day 8

Return journey, you will take a taxi from your hotel to the airport Faro (approx. 25€).
